Losing Trend Continues for Detroit
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs get after it.
Yesus Vanegas was instrumental in his team's 9-6 triumph over the Detroit Tigers. The third baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Chicago Cubs. The win went to Alex Stanley in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Norberto Robledo took the loss. Fry Stalnacker earned the save for Chicago, his 11th.
Had Joaquin Gamble not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Gamble hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Cubs.
"We're going through a bad spell," said Detroit manager Andrew Burdick.
With the win, Chicago is 17-13.
