Late Magic Gets Delco 3-0 Win
|
Delco took on Bluefield in front of a lively crowd.
The Bluefield Blue Jays got a sterling performance from pitcher Nate Johnson, but the Delco Jawns still prevailed, 3-0. Johnson threw 7.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Gangsheng Mei, the winner, improved to 2-3. He held Bluefield to no runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts.
Delco used a clutch hit from Zane Fischer to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Jawns ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Bottom line," said Bluefield skipper Jason Norton, "we didn't play well enough to win."
With the win, Delco goes to 22-30, while the Blue Jays fall to 24-27.
