Bluefield Defeats Burlington, 7-3
|
The Burlington Royals got a superb performance from pitcher Sonny Skinner. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Bluefield. The Blue Jays won the game, 7-3. Skinner threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Bluefield reliever Felix Robles picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Scott Childress shouldered the loss. Pingo Rondan recorded the save, his 1st.
Bluefield needed the clutch hitting of Robert Rubio to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 5-3. For the game, Rubio had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Rubio.
With this game in the books, Bluefield is 22-25, Burlington 14-34.
