Chukars Clip Chiefs, 1-0
|
Idaho Falls starter Rodwell DeBrito pitched well against the Cheyenne Chiefs at Melaleuca Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 1-0. Rickey Varagian was called on to finish, recording his 6th save. The Chukars, now 14-11, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.
Had Jimmy Wegge not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Wegge hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Chukars.
Chukars manager Jesus Torres raved about DeBrito after the game. "I thought Rodwell was 'lights out.'"
