Rockies Tolley Smacks 5 Hits
|
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Leonardo Tolley got his name recorded today, but the Great Falls Voyagers picked up the win at Centene Stadium, topping the Grand Junction Rockies, 12-5.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Vinny Rodriguez. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Tolley, who is tied for 8th in the PIO in runs scored with 10, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the center fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Leonardo Tolley singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This season in 13 games, Tolley is batting .328 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and has scored 10 times.
