Americans Nipped by Voyagers, 5-4
|
Great Falls beat Butte at Centene Stadium, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to third baseman Jack Brenner. He was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Anderson Epley, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Aaron Purvis saved it for Great Falls.
The Voyagers got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Fernando Esquivel. For the game, Esquivel went 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Great Falls a 5-4 lead.
"Time to decompress after a tough win," said Brenner.
With the loss, Butte is 3-8.
