Americans Nip Cubs, 3-2
|
Butte and Raleigh got after it at Ballpark of Raleigh.
The Americans grabbed a win, 3-2, at Ballpark of Raleigh, overcoming a fine effort from Raleigh pitcher Bence Short. Short went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Reliever Rush Kartchner picked up the win. His record improves to 2-3. Vince Hunkins took the loss.
Butte used the timely hitting of Hubey Sergent to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Americans on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Sergent called the triumph "a good team win."
Butte is now 13-21.
