Elliott Whacks 2 Home Runs in 7-1 Win
|
The winning streak continued for Welch.
The Welch Miners defeated the Burlington Royals by the score of 7-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Kyle Elliott. Elliott was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Miners on the day. Skyler Forbes got the win, improving to 3-1. He held the Royals to 1 run on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 0.
It could have been a different outcome for Welch, had it not been for Sidney Delgado, the 22-year old second baseman . Delgado contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the third inning to put Welch up, 2-0.
"I thought we were prepared," Burlington manager Mark Reed said after the game. "I thought we'd be more competitive out there."
At 36-29, Welch is in 5th place in the Appalachian League West Division.
