Miners Get Better of Rumblers, 3-2
|
The Welch Miners faced a tough opponent in River City pitcher Angel Leal, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Welch Fields by a final score of 3-2. Leal went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Welch reliever Arlo Carlin picked up the win. J.D. Zuniga took the loss for River City. The Miners improved their record to 28-37 with the win over River City.
Montae Smitham went 1 for 3 for Welch. The 22-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Angel Leal. It was his 10th RBI of the season.
"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said River City manager Sawyer Damon.
