Ward Shines in 9-3 Bluefield Win
|
The Bluefield Blue Jays downed the Welch Miners, 9-3. The hitting star was second baseman Maxwell Ward. Ward was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Blue Jays. Jaxon Renuka snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 2 innings. He's now 1-2 on the season. Brom Kucera earned his 15th save, after closing out the game.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Ward delivered big-time for Bluefield, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Oscar Bertels. The game-changing hit put the Blue Jays on top, 4-3.
Ward said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
