Portsider Helps Elizabethton to 1-0 Win
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Elizabethton Twins and the Reidsville Red Sox, pitcher Francis Chairez was superb. The Elizabethton left-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the APP in quality starts with 7, spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. The Twins improved their record to 34-21 by beating Reidsville.
The standout performance belonged to 19-year-old Chairez. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Twins. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Red Sox, striking out 8 and scattering 3 hits over 7.1 innings. Chairez is now 5-3 on the season.
"Francis was really on it," said Elizabethton manager David Cardona. "He's got a feel for playing with the hitter front-to-back, side-to-side."
