Kinston Beats Bluefield, 5-3
|
The Kinston Indians beat the Bluefield Blue Jays, 5-3, at Ballpark of Kinston. Kinston catcher Holden Hoffert had the hot bat. He was 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. Kinston reliever Brian Herman picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Johnny Baca was tagged with the loss. Marques Bell earned the save, his 2nd, for the Indians.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Hoffert hit a run-scoring single off Johnny Baca. It propelled the Indians into the lead, 4-3.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Hoffert, "and then get after it again."
The 7th-place Indians are now 24-31, the Blue Jays 27-28.
