5-4 Win Sends Fayetteville to 38-11
|
Hampton Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Hampton Orioles and Fayetteville Frogs.
The Fayetteville Frogs scooted past the Hampton Orioles, 5-4, at Hampton Stadium. Fayetteville pitcher Eli Darrow, in particular, performed like a star. Darrow yielded 2 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 7-1.
The Frogs got a big at-bat from left fielder Larry Cline. For the game, Cline went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Fayetteville a 2-0 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Hampton manager Kyle Kovac. "But we decided not to take it."
Fayetteville is first in the Appalachian League East Division with a record of 38-11.
