Rubin Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Charlie Rubin, it came around today.
The 21-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over Ballpark of Edmonton to pace the 8-1 Erwin Mountaineers victory over the Elizabethton Twins.
Elizabethton skipper David Cardona told reporters in the press room that "Rubin deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Rubin hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Charlie Rubin singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
So far this season, Rubin is batting .322 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 47 hits in 146 at-bats, 12 walks and a .375 OBP. Rubin has played in 40 games.
