Orioles Take Tight Tilt, 5-4
|
The Hampton Orioles defeated the Welch Miners, 5-4, in Appalachian League action at Hampton Stadium. Hampton pitcher Paul Raines had a standout performance. The win belonged to Prince Peters in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Augie Finger took the loss for Welch. The third-place Orioles hiked their record to 26-18.
Orson Neufer was the walk-off hero for Hampton. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Orioles pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"The fans went nuts at the end," Neufer said.
