Mitchell, Smokies Beat Mets, 8-4
|
The Harlan Smokies trumped the Kingsport Mets, 8-4, at Hunter Wright Stadium. Harlan right fielder Randy Mitchell was terrific. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Joseph Green picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Aron Hardy was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Conroy Van Hise, his 8th.
Harlan used a clutch hit from Joey Britt to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Smokies ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Britt said. "We did a good job of that today."
The win puts the Smokies at 16-4, while the Mets drop to 11-9.
