Rallying Royals Get 3-2 Win
|
The Burlington Royals got a strong performance from pitcher Todd Doyle, who stymied the Bluefield offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Rob McFarland earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 3-0. Jeremiah Cotter picked up the save, his 4th.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Peter Lytle came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Bluefield pitcher Jaxon Renuka, he hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Burlington on top, 3-2.
"Sometimes a win comes easy," Lytle told the Burlington News. "And sometimes you have to scratch and claw."
Burlington is 8th in the Appalachian League East Division with a record of 15-21.
