Braves Take Down Orioles, 5-1
|
The Hampton Orioles could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Bobby Stinson into a win. Instead, the Danville Braves prevailed, 5-1, in 11 innings. Stinson threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Liam Hewitt earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. Danville currently is in 7th place in the Appalachian League East Division at 12-15.
Augusto Arrieta delivered a big hit for Danville. The right fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Braves ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"That's what these guys do," said Braves manager Nick Edwards. "They battle, they fight."
