The Boston Red Sox withstood an impressive performance by Portland first baseman Ezekiel Lares to defeat the Hops, 7-5, at The BeerGarden. Lares went 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Kenzie Lackey got the win, improving to 1-4. He held the Hops to 4 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 10 and walking 2. Emo Youngs picked up his 6th save of the season.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ernesto Javier? The Boston first baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-0. For the game, Javier had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
