Loss Diminishes Fine Performance by Rolland
The Harlan Smokies weathered an outstanding game by Hampton shortstop Jordan Rolland to topple the Orioles, 4-3. Rolland was 4-4 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Harlan reliever Sugar Ray Bivins was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Tatum Rousseau took the loss. Foster Rivas notched his 4th save of the season.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher J.J. Garland came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hampton pitcher Sebastian Hechavarria, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Harlan on top, 4-3.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Hampton manager Kyle Kovac. "The effort was great."

The second-place Smokies sport a record of 16-9.
