Fildes gets 5 RBI to Power Blue Jays Offense
|
The Bluefield Blue Jays thumped the Danville Braves, 9-1, at Bowen Field. Jesse Fildes was a big reason his team got the win. Fildes went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Tommy Coyle earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. The 6th-place Blue Jays are now 9-11, the Braves 7-13.
The Braves had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old center fielder Jim Almenas came to the plate. Almenas hit a 2-run double on a first pitch fastball from Danville hurler Parker Anderson. It was Almenas's 1st double of the year.
"It was a good team win. Everybody threw something in," Almenas told the Bluefield Observer.
