Elizabethton Beats Raleigh, 5-2
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Elizabethton-Raleigh ballgame.
The Elizabethton Twins earned a win at Joe O'Brien Field, knocking off the Raleigh Cubs, 5-2. On the bump for Elizabethton was right-hander Vince Heisey. He had a starring role in the triumph. Heisey yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-0. Scott Morel nailed down his 1st save.
Henry Good had a big 2-run double for the Twins in the bottom of the third inning. With Elizabethton leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Ossie Litteri and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Twins ahead, 3-0.
"Vince had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Elizabethton manager Toby Staiano.
The third-place Twins lifted their record to 10-6.
