Mountaineers Edged, 5-3, by Danville
|
Conditions were not ideal but Danville and Erwin were able to put their game in the books.
The Danville Braves defeated the Erwin Mountaineers, 5-3. Center Fielder José Martinez deserved a large share of the credit. Martinez was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk for the Braves. The win was credited to 20-year old right-handed pitcher Travis Clements in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Amado De La Cruz took the loss. Howard Gates earned the save, his 4th.
Maikel Subia provided a timely hit. The Danville designated hitter delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Braves on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
Subia attributed the win to "concerted effort and focus."
The Mountaineers fall to 4-8 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2068 season.
