Mountaineers Win Nail-Biter, 4-3
|
The Erwin Mountaineers withstood a good performance by Bluefield designated hitter Tyler Groves to knock off Bluefield, 4-3, in 11 innings. Groves went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The win brings the Mountaineers to 7-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
The Mountaineers got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Jerónimo Betancourt. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single to center, to win the game for the Mountaineers.
"This game was intense," Betancourt said, postgame.
