Hampton turned a fine outing from starter Stefano El Greco into a victory over the Bristol Pirates at Hampton Stadium. The final score was 2-1. El Greco, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Earning his 5th save of the year was R.J. Leger.
Ron Marcum drew 1 walk in his only trip to the plate for Hampton. The 21-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Luke Blair. It was his 9th walk of the season.
"That's baseball," said Bristol manager Neil Kuntz. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
Hampton, now 9-5, has played well in the early going.
