Orioles Come Up Short at Welch, 1-0
Fred Corgill could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Hampton Orioles lost, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Welch Miners at Welch Fields. Johnny Axelrod picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-1. He struck out 3 in 6 innings. Erik Nagel collected save number 3.

Mel Jean drove in one run for Welch. The 20-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Fred Corgill. It was his 4th RBI of the season.

"I'm proud to wear a Welch jersey," Jean told the Welch Daily News. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"

The loss drops Hampton to 7-3.
