The Erwin Mountaineers downed the Bluefield Blue Jays, 5-2, at Bowen Field. The Mountaineers were led by Guilhermino Rodríguez. Rodríguez went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Erwin reliever Adolfo Lares picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Alexas Freund was tagged with the loss. Tárzan Andujar sewed up the save, his 1st.

With Erwin leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Rodríguez hit a cutter from Alexas Freund for a solo home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Mountaineers ahead, 2-0.

Rodríguez attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."

Erwin is off to a hot start at 2-1.
