The Bluefield Blue Jays beat the Reidsville Red Sox, 5-4, at Bowen Field. Ronaldo Valtierra, in particular, was impressive. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Bluefield pitcher Andy Maloney got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Assael Cordero got the loss. The loss has the Red Sox at 1-4.

Bluefield took a 5-4 lead on Wayne Weber's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Weber hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Reidsville pitcher Assael Cordero visibly frustrated.

"It's not about individual awards," Valtierra told a Bluefield Today reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
