The Bluefield Blue Jays got their 2058 season off and running with a win over the Reidsville Red Sox at Bowen Field. The final score was 8-7. Bluefield first baseman Ronaldo Valtierra, in particular, had a fine performance. Bluefield reliever Jeremy Rainier picked up the win. Larry DeVore took the loss for Reidsville. Brom Kucera picked up his 1st save of the season.

Rocco Piar helped out the Bluefield cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the right fielder drew 1 walk.

"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Piar told the Bluefield Today. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
