Mountaineers Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Fans of the Erwin Mountaineers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Erwin win over the visiting Hampton Orioles, 2-1. Joey Levine started for the home team against Warren Jackson. Warren Jackson earned accolades for his performance.
The Mountaineers were down to their final out when left fielder Beyers Small turned a first pitch changeup from Eli Sorenson into a 2-run double. The walk-off double made the Ballpark of Edmonton crowd go wild.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Erwin manager Javier Mendoza said.
