The manager of the Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs said he thinks Orlando Alvarez is only going to get better as he gets older.
He may only be 21, but it will be hard to top the third baseman's 1973 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Dixie Association Most Valuable Player Award.
His winning campaign featured a .305 batting average and a .379 on-base percentage this year. In 96 games he piled up 112 hits, 14 doubles, 7 triples, 9 home runs, 36 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

The 1973 Dixie Association Pitcher of the Year Award has gone to Montgomery Rebels ace Theodore Gilje after a stellar 14-5 season.
In 24 starts he piled up 197.1 innings, 163 strikeouts, 107 walks and a 1.46 ERA. Gilje held opposing hitters to a .170 batting average.
He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 14. Jim Sadowski of the Memphis Blues finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Elvin Ervin of the Arkansas Travelers finished third with 4 first place votes.
