No-Hitter for Wheatle Sunday, June 8th , 2031 Fans at Day Air Ballpark got a rare gift today as Chris Wheatle of the Dragons tossed a no-hitter against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Although Wheatle did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, he turned masterful as the game went on, ultimately striking out 10 and walking 2 in a 3-0 Dayton victory. "We had our chances in the first few innings when he was hittable, and we couldn't capitalize on them," Wisconsin manager Julio Borbon said later. "In the last four or five innings, he totally shut us down." In all, Wheatle faced only 30 batters. While getting into his groove, he was helped by several defensive gems. "I don't remember a better-pitched game," Dragons manager Bo Hart said. "And how about our defense today?" In 10 starts this season, Wheatle has compiled a 3-3 record and a 2.50 ERA. View Boxscore |
