Sky Carp Spellbound, Calzadilla Hurls No-Hitter Thursday, July 5th , 2029 Gerson Calzadilla really did a number on the Beloit Sky Carp at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium -- and that number was zero. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hurler had what he later called "one of the best moments of my life," tossing a no-hitter and leading the Timber Rattlers to victory, 1-0. "This is something special," Calzadilla said. "I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They're everywhere you look." The right-hander faced only 36 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 8 and walked 7. "We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," Beloit manager Jorge Hernandez said when asked about the epic performance. "Calzadilla was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number." For the season, Calzadilla has a record of 7 wins and no losses in 14 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.48 and has fanned 45 batters in 54.1 innings. View Boxscore |
