SL Player of the Week, Ortega of Mississippi Monday, July 5th , 2032 With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, Mississippi Braves third baseman Edgar Ortega took the Southern League by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors. "The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy Ortega said to BNN reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it -- I can hit it anywhere." The 24-year-old third baseman hit .458 (11-for-24) last week with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Ortega is swinging at a .273 pace on the year with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has played in 75 games. |
