Red-Hot Penkwitz Cools Off Durham
Saturday, August 21st , 2032
The Syracuse Mets shut out the Durham Bulls, 5-0, behind the strong pitching of Bob Penkwitz. Penkwitz surrendered only 5 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.

Following the last out, Penkwitz appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Durham manager Greg LaRocca, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Penkwitz's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Bulls skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Mets press conference, Penkwitz confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Penkwitz said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Syracuse manager Brian Dinkelman added.

To date this season, Penkwitz sports a 10-11 mark with a 3.94 ERA in 23 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .288 batting average and has 125 strikeouts in 164.1 innings.
