The Stockton Ports were almost helpless in their 6-0 loss to the Modesto Nuts and hurler Ethan Darden. Darden kept the Ports confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Darden," Stockton manager So Taguchi said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 25-year-old left-hander had no walks and 11 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Darden said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

This season, Darden has compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.59 ERA.
