BlueClaws Fizzle in 4-0 Loss to Grasshoppers
Mike Jones of the Greensboro Grasshoppers was on top of his game.

The 24-year-old tantalized the Jersey Shore BlueClaws with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.

"He had the changeup working," Jersey Shore manager Joe DePastino said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Greensboro hurler had 11 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.

Jones told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This year, Jones has fanned 65 in 59.2 innings and collected a 5-1 record with a 1.51 ERA.
