After a 5-hit effort to lead Hickory's 15-2 victory over the Rome Braves, shortstop Sam Robertson told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the South Atlantic League-level is really something special."

The 24-year-old player earned his accolades at State Mutual Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Braves.

"His swing is getting there," said Crawdads skipper Jefferson Romero, who spoke glowingly of Robertson after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Sam did that to perfection."

Sam Robertson singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Albert Rivas in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.

So far this season, Robertson is hitting .297 with 4 home runs, 24 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He has 58 hits in 195 at-bats and a .364 OBP.
