The Boston Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics, 8-5, at Oakland Coliseum. Lonnie White went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The 30-year old center fielder was a menace to Oakland all day. Boston starter Garrett Whitlock was credited with the win after throwing 88 pitches over 6.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Picking up his 4th save was 31-year old right-handed pitcher Yosuke Fujiwara.

Early in the game, first baseman Nick Yorke had a solo home run for Boston. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Red Sox on top, 1-0.

"I felt good up there," said Yorke. "I saw the ball well."

The loss drops Oakland to 3-6.
