LeBrecht Stands Out in St. Paul Shutout
Mike LeBrecht of the St. Paul Saints was on top of his game.

The 23-year-old tantalized the Nashville Sounds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0.

"He had the changeup working," Nashville manager Alvaro Sosa said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The St. Paul hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.

LeBrecht told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In 19 starts this season, LeBrecht has fashioned a 9-7 record and a 3.03 ERA.
