Redbirds, Hentges Buzz Jumbo Shrimp, 2-0
|
The Memphis Redbirds shut out the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 2-0, behind the strong pitching of Sam Hentges. Hentges surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 4.
Following the last out, Hentges appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Jacksonville manager Lee Ridenhour, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Hentges's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Jumbo Shrimp skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Redbirds press conference, Hentges confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Hentges said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Memphis manager Ben Johnson added.
To date this season, Hentges has compiled a 3-3 record with a 1.89 ERA in 5 starts.
