Cleveland Roughed Up By Phillies
|
The Philadelphia Phillies cut down the Cleveland Guardians by the score of 8-0, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Yemal Flores. Flores went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Phillies. With the victory, the Phillies upped their record to 78-78.
The Guardians had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Phillies going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star CJ Abrams came to the plate. Abrams hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 fastball from Cleveland hurler Max Meyer. It was Abrams's 39th double of the year.
Said losing manager Bob Renner: "At the end of the day, we've got to play better."
