Washington Gets 6-5 Win
|
The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets by the score of 6-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Latroy Melanson. Melanson went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Nationals on the day. Tim Berman picked up the win, lifting his record to 8-2 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 0 in 6 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Dylan Lee earned his 7th save in 12 chances.
Washington took advantage of an error in the top of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Jace Jung hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Nationals in front, 5-3.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Melanson.
The Nationals lead the National League East Division by 12 games.
