Win Lifts Cubs to 83-60
|
Chicago Cubs starter Alek Manoah turned in a top-notch performance against the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. The result was a win for the Cubs, 3-1. Frankie Scalzo finished the game for Chicago and earned his 29th save. The current losing streak for Colorado has reached 4 games.
The Rockies had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cubs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old left fielder Ian Happ came to the plate. Happ hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Colorado hurler Kevin Gausman. It was Happ's 7th home run of the year.
Afterward, Cubs manager David Ross was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
