New York pitcher Luis Medina had a large part in his team beating the Seattle Mariners, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The Yankees, at 77-63, have now won 5 straight.
Chris Lovegrove had a big solo home run for the Yankees in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Jacob Shafer, who is tied for 5th in the AL with a 2.84 ERA, and punished it. The result was his 37th home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 2-0.
"Runs were at a premium," said New York manager Dave Roberts.
