The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox obliged fans looking for a good time.

The New York Yankees weathered an outstanding game by Boston shortstop Mike Causey to topple the Red Sox, 6-5. Causey went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. New York reliever Alfredo Melgar picked up the win to move to 1-0. Gregory Soto suffered the loss.

Had Anthony Volpe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Volpe hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Yankees.

"We took home the win," said Volpe. "What's not to like?"

With the win, New York pushed its record to 67-64.
