With Late Score, White Sox Beat Nationals
|
The Washington Nationals could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Shohei Ohtani into a win. Instead, the Chicago White Sox prevailed, 4-3. Ohtani threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The win was credited to Joe Clark in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Anthony Molina took the loss. Mick Abel, credited with the save, is now 5 for 8 in save opportunities.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Benny Montgomery to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the White Sox on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I was a little disappointed," said Washington manager Matt Patton. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The White Sox lead the American League Central Division by 12 games.
