Cubs Shut Out Nationals, 3-0
|
Chicago pitcher Codi Heuer did his part in helping his team beat the Washington Nationals, 3-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Heuer yielded no runs over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 9-6. With the win, the Cubs sit at 65-54.
Dansby Swanson had a big 2-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Braden Zarbnisky, who finished 5th in the NL in wins with 15 in 2026, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Cubs on top, 3-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Chicago manager David Ross said.
