Allen 3-for-4, Leads Marlins to Win
|
Miami designated hitter Henry Allen was a significant contributor in his team's 4-1 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Marlins. Miami reliever Victor Gonzalez picked up the win to move to 6-6. Caleb Ferguson suffered the loss. Earning the save was Samuel Valerio. He's now cashed in 5 of 7 save opportunities.
Allen had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Caleb Ferguson, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Marlins a 4-1 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Allen.
Miami manager Brian Berkshire commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
The Marlins, at 53-63, sit in last place in the National League East Division.
