Cubs Squeeze By Washington, 6-5
|
Washington got a big-time effort from pitcher Juan Arechaederra, but it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Cubs from winning the game, 6-5. Arechaederra threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Guadalupe Flores was the winner. He's now 10-8. The loser was 37-year old right-handed pitcher Wil Crowe. Orion Kerkering closed it out for Chicago, earning his 12th save.
Had Francisco Lindor not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Lindor hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Cubs.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Cubs manager David Ross.
With the win, Chicago pushed its record to 61-55.
