The Kansas City Royals got a sterling performance from left fielder Jonathan Mekelburg, but the New York Yankees still prevailed, 6-4. Mekelburg was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. At 51-62, the Yankees find themselves in 4th place in the American League East Division.

Chris Lovegrove had a big 2-run home run for the Yankees in the top of the fifth inning. With New York leading 3-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Charmelo Pfeifer and punished it. The result was his 26th home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 5-0.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Lovegrove. "And not try to do too much."
